This is one of my favorite pictures I ever saw Linsner do of Dawn. It just really spoke to me. So for the Dawn Look-a-Like contest 2000 I started working on this. I decided to make this out of vinyl and one of my fabric suppliers in CA found the perfect color. It took forever and ever to make all of the buckles on the lapels of the coat; my roommates were absolutely sick of hearing me curse the darn stuff after the months and months of work this took. This costume was uncomfortable to wear. The bodysuit I had made by one of the top latex creators out there. not cheap at all but latex does not breathe at all so i was very warm. Add the real chains around my neck and the vinyl coat in Atlanta in August... not comfy. A funny note on the flag part. I'm very very patriotic and I could not bear to carry around a tattered flag let alone make a flag look tattered. So I created a 'fake' flag with the incorrect amount of stars and stripes and took it outside to 'age'. I was in my backyard rubbing it in the dirt and tearing it up; all the while terrified someone would see me. And it wasn't even real!! But it all paid off in the end, I love how this coat came out and I won the contest. |
